Die ersten Elgonköniginnen haben wir im Jahr 2000 von Erik Österlund bekommen. Die Königinnen dieser Linie sind nach wie vor sehr fruchtbar und es werden sehr starke Völker aufgebaut. In milden Wintern kann es sein, dass das Brutgeschäft nicht unterbrochen wird und somit eine erfolgreiche Restentmilbung nicht möglich ist. Derjenige, der die Milbe im Griff hat, kann generell mit hohen Erträgen rechnen.
